20 July 2016 - The United Nations in Ukraine, UN Development Programme, GiZ in Ukraine in partnership with Dnipro regional state administration conducted the first regional consultation on localization of the 2030 Development Agenda and 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Ukraine.

The United Nations in Ukraine, UN Development Programme, GiZ in Ukraine in partnership with Dnipro regional state administration conducted the first regional consultation on localization of the 2030 Development Agenda and 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Ukraine.

The purpose of consultations is to ensure inclusive participation of civil society and state institutions, common understanding of SDGs and their relevance to the context of national development of Ukraine.

“The achievement of Sustainable Development Goals will promote the development of Dnipro region and boost the investments”- informed Vitalii Lytvyn, Advisor tothe Head of the Dnipro oblast administration in his opening remarks to the participants of the local consultation.

“New Sustainable Development Agenda as well as 17 SDGs and 169 targets is not just the document. While the SDGs are not legally binding, Government, business and civil society are expected to take ownership and establish national frameworks for the achievement of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals”, - said Blerta Cela, Country Director, a.i., UNDP in Ukraine.

Multilateral consultation on Dnipro regional level united 62 representatives of the State Regional Administration, Dnipro civil society representatives and academia. Further work shall involve holding 9 consultations at the local level in Mariupol, Lutsk, Zhytomyr, Uzhgorod, Kherson, Ternopil, Cherkasy, Zaporizhya and Sumy.

The event was held in the interactive format “World Cafe” which resulted in the presentations of prioritized Global Goals for Ukraine, Dnipro region in particular and the possible ways to achieve and monitor progress on them.

In the result of 5 consultation rounds the participants presented the following TOP 4 Global Goals for Ukraine:

  1. Goal 16 Promote peaceful and inclusive societies for sustainable development, provide access to justice for all and build effective, accountable and inclusive institutions at all levels
  2. Goal 8 Promote sustained, inclusive and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment and decent work for all
  3. Goal 11 Make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable
  4. Goal 9 Build resilient infrastructure, promote inclusive and sustainable industrialization and foster innovation

Meanwhile, the most important TOP 4 Global Goals for Dnipro region were chosen the following:

  1. Goal 8 Promote sustained, inclusive and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment and decent work for all
  2. Goal 11 Make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable
  3. Goal 9 Build resilient infrastructure, promote inclusive and sustainable industrialization and foster innovation
